NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2019
MARTIN KING RIP
Many of you will not have known Martin, who sadly died recently after a short illness. Michael Slater and I attended the Funeral Mass at Corpus Christi on 20 May which was celebrated by Fr Alan. Fr Alan talked movingly about Martin, who regularly attended the 9.30 a.m. Sunday Mass when he did the readings. Fr Alan told us that Martin didn’t just read about the person involved – he BECAME that person and he made sure that he read the readings at least a day BEFORE the Mass. Martin was a lovely man who lived alone as his wife, the well known Director and Writer, Jan Butlin, sadly died some years ago. May they now rest in peace together.
QUARTERMAINE’S TERMS - 14 MAY AT THE CAA
The first production of this play was directed by Kenneth Michaels. He re-directed the play for this event which was produced by Nadia Ostacchini to raise funds for AGE UK ISLINGTON. This was a great event in which several fantastic actors, including Nadia, took part and they were, quite simply, all terrific. It is a great pity that so few CaAPA members came along – they missed a great evening and some wonderful acting. Our thanks to Nadia and Ken for ALL their hard work.
Homelessness – 12 November at the CAA
If you are writing a play-let on the topic of Homelessness to be performed at the CAA on 12 November, could you please note that ALL 10 MINUTE SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED, VIA E-MAIL, NO LATER THAN 31 AUGUST TO THE FOLLOWING:
Penny Culliford email@example.com
Kenneth Michaels firstname.lastname@example.org
Peter Haycroft email@example.com
Robin Marchal firstname.lastname@example.org
SUMMER OF ROCKETS
If you have not seen the first two episodes of Summer of Rockets, in which our Vice President, Toby Stephens, plays a major role together with Keeley Hawes and other well known actors, then do watch the remaining four episodes as this is a brilliant production and very well acted.. It is on every Wednesday on BBC2 at 9 p.m.
Sebastian Nicholas has very kindly agreed to take on this post.
Good luck, Sebastian, and our grateful thanks.
The Feast of Corpus Christi is on 23 June and, as you know, Corpus Christi is also the Actors Church. If you would like to attend Mass there on that day there is one Mass at 9.30 a.m. and another at 11.30 a.m.
There will not be any Newsletters in July or August for the simple reason that there won’t BE any news. Well, not news that affects CaAPA. The next Newsletter will be sent out on 1 September with full details of forthcoming events.
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER AND MAY IT BE A GOOD ONE. WE ARE LIVING IN INTERESTING TIMES AND NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE OUTCOME RE BREXIT WILL BE AT THE MOMENT. CaAPA COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB!!! ... See MoreSee Less

A HUGE thank you to all Caapa members who came to the performance reading of Quartermaine's Terms by Simon Gray earlier last week. Here's how much was raised from donations to Age UK Islington:
'The £157.41 will be used for reusable picnic supplies – crockery and blankets, and some food, for a picnic planned for clients in the summer. There should also be enough for a music stand for the Royal College Music recitals which take place at the Drovers Centre. There might be enough as well for 2 thermos flasks to take on our regular walks so that everyone gets to have a coffee as part of it'.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING CAAPA. ... See MoreSee Less
