NEWMAN HOUSE FUNDING EVENT -21 MARCH
Since we started to support this event, it has grown from three students helping at the hospital in Lourdes every July to 23 students giving their services to the sick. Our Fund Raising Concert on 21 March at the CAA was another joyful gathering where we were entertained by the talents of the students, including those of the Senior Chaplain, Fr Stephen Wang, on the Sax. A note to Fr Stephen – Give up the day job!!
This event raised £400 with donations still arriving at Newman House. Well done to all those who took part. It was disappointing that the only support on the night from CaAPA came from Michael Slater and Kenneth Michaels and Michael HAD to be there to take the collection. Unfortunately I was not very well so was unable to attend – the first time I have missed this event.
THE WAY OF THE CROSS
Following the success of “The Way of the Cross” at the Old Bailey last year, the President of the Lourdes Pilgrimage, Bernard Lavery KSG, invited us to contribute to a further reading at the Church of St John Fisher in Shepperton on 15 March. As a result Gabrielle Lister, Kenneth Michaels and Michael Slater went “on tour” to the wilds of Shepperton where they contributed to the narration of the Stations of the Cross with music and singing by the Lourdes Choir. It was a very rewarding evening and the Parish Priest asked us to take this to other venues next year. It was also very rewarding to be aware (again) of the talents of our members who, once more, contributed to a very moving evening.
We are indebted to Jane Garioni and her husband, Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, who made all this possible with our involvement with The Way of the Cross at the Old Bailey last year.
FORTHCOMING EVENT – 14 MAY
Nadia Ostacchini will staging a performance reading of Quartermaine's Terms by Simon Gray at the CAA on this date at 7pm. FREE event but donations welcome at the end of the evening, which will go to Age UK Islington. Guest speaker from Age UK Islington TBC. More details in the May Newsletter & poster to follow
